Fireworks Shows in 2002

Ok, so I landed a new contract to migrate Kentucky fried chickens corporate offices to Windows 2000, (seriously) So I had to pick up and move to ...where else? Louisville Kentucky. One nice thing about that was the possibility of working on a half million-dollar fireworks show. Thunder over Louisville.
Thunder is an annual event that celebrates the opening of the Kentucky derby. It is a 6 Barge show (meaning its on the water) and its legendary in the industry. It is put on by Zambelli Fireworks.

So I Contacted George Zambelli who is the owner of the company and quite an interesting person. I was told that it was too late to get on the crew for Thunder but he invited me to the private party they hold for the sponsors and VIPS. And what a party it was, this family really knows how to throw a bash!!! George and I sat down and briefly discussed doing some shows in Detroit for the future. Then the Show started and words just cant describe. If you enjoy fireworks and you have the means.... Go see this show. Its well worth the trip

After my contract was complete, I moved back home to Detroit. Once there, George contacted me and asked me about working the International Freedom festival Show which is one of the Top 5 largest Shows in North America. So in June of 2002 I finally worked on one of the monster shows in America. A week ok backbreaking sweat and tears that ends with 30 minutes on a barge in the middle of the Detroit River. I was on the Middle Barge By the way.

Since that show, which was June 27th 2002, I have done about 14 shows for Zambelli. Including Shows In Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, and a 4th of July Show Back in Texas. I cant believe it.....after all these years I'm now getting paid to blow things up. Things just seem to work out sometimes. In August, I did the Ionia fair this year, which was pretty cool; Its 10 shows over 10 nights in a row. A total of about $80,000 in fireworks spread over 10 days with half the work.

I also did a wedding at an exclusive golf course, I tell ya there were some very nervous old men that day. But the show went off pretty well. I wish I could afford a $5000 Fireworks show for my daughters wedding....if I had a daughter that is.

So here it is now October, and I am currently preparing to get my Ohio and Maryland Licenses, so by next year I should be doing some show there as well. I will try to keep this page updated with pics and such. By the Way, I am always looking for crewmembers so if you are interested in learning about professional fireworks. Drop me a line. Also Check out my Fireworks page for pics of shows I've done Including the Freedom Festival.
