Criteria for task appropriateness (Chapelle, 2001)

            I.                1.Learner fit

We need to know the characteristic and the level of competence of the learners to decide appropriate website.
2. Meaning focus
We have to concern the language whether it is using target language or not.
3. Language Learning potential
We have to focus on form of language learning before we choose the website.
4. Practicality
The standard skill of learners to do the task.
5. Positive impact
Other skill of learners can support the learners to do the task.
6. Authenticity
Validity of the materials in the website.
7. credibility
Facts that relate to the authenticity.
8. Up to date
Fitting the contents of the site with appropriate education.

 

II.                 1. What is the target language of the website?

2. Is it an authentic website?
3. Is there any other skills or strategies if the website is used?
4. Is the difficulty level of this material is appropriate?
5. Is this material easy downloaded?
6. Is this material up-to-date?
7. Is there an author name in this website?
8. Is the material potential to build learner's language?

 

III.               According to the website the teacher can use the web to teach and according to Chapelle-2001 the website appropriate to use in class if

 the web has 8 criteria.
1. Learner fit
It is not appropriate to learner’s characteristics and learner’s level of competence because it is too difficult for beginner and the conversation is too fast. The website can be used by the learners because it has level for learners. The conversation is fast and it is suitable for advanced.
2. Meaning focus.
Both of the website materials support the student to accomplish the task using target language because the question related to the conversation and the answers are in the content of speech.
3. Language Learning Potential.
The material from both website develops learner’s potency because the learner’s has to know the content of the conversation to do the exercise and they might be forced to understand. We conclude that it needs 15 minutes to listening and answer the question because it has only 5 questions.
4. Practicality
The website can be applied practically in the classroom because the teacher only provides tape recorder. We said it before that the first website is not suitable to learner’s characteristics and learner’s level of competence so learners will find difficulty in doing the task. On the other hand, the second website is easy to do the task because it has appropriate learner’s characteristic and learner’s level of competence. Both of the website is easy to access and quick to download.
5. Positive impact
Although there aren’t any skills that can be developed in those materials besides listening, there is some new vocabularies that can improve the learner’s skill. Both of the website materials bring the positive impact toward learners because the author has good attitude on the conversation.
6. Authenticity
The type of presentation in both website is audio and they provide authentic (an exercise for the learner)
7. Credibility
Both of webs has obvious author and copyright.
8. Up-To-Date
They are providing an up-to-date issue.
