The music filtered through the thin walls, flowing and cascading around her straining ears. The tempo increased and crashed in a dramatic climax of sound and emotion.
She breathed.
She waited.
Her eyes closed and memories flew through her mind. Images and sounds from her life, made their way, marching from the deep recesses of her memory. The music softened, and in it she heard despair that rang parallel to her own. The voice called to her, left her with her throat strained and her heart beating fast. She felt hollow, empty, void of true emotion. Deaf and sheltered from the deep pain and emotion one could feel, in searching for another. She contemplated her limited interaction with those she loved, and wondered what it would be like to love someone so much it brought such agony. Her eyes closed tight to her surroundings, she focused on what it would be like to love, and to yearn.
She breathed.
She waited.
The music began to fade, into a soft dramatic ending with a glimpse at living a life haunted by one's memories of love. She opened her eyes wide, and allowed herself once again to grasp her surroundings. Her heart welled up, and tears began to drift slowly from her eyes down her cheeks, as realization came. She had encountered love that moved far beyond attraction and chemistry. She had loved, and desired love more strongly than any star-crossed lover ever could. Because her beloved was not one who would die, or who was unjust. And her life was devoted to attaining His love. Her love was Almighty Allah, and nothing could compare to that.
She breathed.
She waited.
The music was gone. Forgotten in the acknowledgement of something better. In its place she heard the adhaan, calling her to her beloved, to success. And she rose to answer it.
She waited no more.
