Greener and less touristed than the Aegean Islands, the Ionian island of Corfu lies off the west coast of Patra, and is usually a stop for ferries heading over to Greece from Brindisi, Italy. This is how I happened to come to Corfu... after my long backpacking trip through Europe. It is here that I heard the familiar ring of the Greek language in my ear... it is here that I literally got on my hands and knees to kiss the soil.

At our hotel we met a group of Australian-Greeks who had also made the trek across Europe en route to island hopping in Greece. We had a wonderful week together and finally, came to say goodbye and go our separate ways...
