The Greenbush Catholic Cemetery was established as far back as 1872, on Joseph Jesmer's land.   The Catholic Church for the "French Settlement" (as the community was called by the residents of Princeton) - the St Francis du Chantel Catholic Church - was built in the 1880s.  Joseph Jesmer donated to the diocese the cemetery and the land for the new church.  All of the sacraments were performed here until 1898, when the St Edward Church in Princeton was built.  Some folks went into town, but many stayed at St Francis, until the parish was officially closed in the 1930s.  At that time all the parishioners became members of either St Edwards or the Duelm Catholic Church.  St Francis du Chanterl  was razed in 1948, yet the Greenbush Catholic Cemetery  remains.  (Note: St Edwards church cemetery was a section of Oak Knoll, Princeton, MN).
In my research I found that during the transition of the parishioners from St Francis to St Edwards the cemetery records were lost, and the only collected source was an incomplete list of headstones that had been published in "St Edwards Centennial Year 1898-1998".  Much of the information was gathered in my research on the Robideau & Jesmer families.  When I heard about the lost records I decided to try to fill in the gaps about the other people buried here.  Looking for references to this cemetery I went through a file of obituaries at the Mille Lacs County Historical Society and surveyed all of the county Death Certificates through the end of the 1940s.  When I have found evidence that people without headstones were buried in the cemetery I have included them in these pages, with notes as to the source.
There are 4 sections to this documentation:
1. The list from the St Edwards which I have annotated heavily (2 pages);
2. A list of people for which I have found evidence of burial here in the cemetery (1 page);
3. A document created by Jeanine Reckinger (another Greenbush cemetery researcher) of burial records she has found in other local church records that refer to burial here in the cemetery, which I have annotated but not verified (1 page); and finally,
4. A list of people I believe are probably buried here and why, but for which I have no evidence of burial.
