Primo Corvelli - Primo is the Captain of the Caladan. He's an ex-Magaran star ship Captain who was court marshaled for attempting to sell his own ship to Cybertech Industries. He was motivated to do this because the Fleet was two months late with his paycheck, so he felt fully justified. The Magaran government didn't see things that way and sentenced him to sixty years. Primo escaped before the sentence could be carried out, and has been on the run ever since. Years later while working as a mercenary, Primo, Diskreet, and a few other mercenaries pirated the Caladan and the Artemis from the Sarks for Cybertech. Unhappy with the fact that Cybertech failed to assist him with his court marshal I.E. helping him to escape, Primo decided to keep the ship for himself. However, the Antaran class star ship he stole had been heavily modified by the Sarks, so now both Cybertech and the Sarks were after Primo along with the Magarans. When Commander Denabreo began hiring Mercenary crews Primo decided to join up with his friend Brice Creed, for protection. Primo prides himself on being a master criminal, but there is one thing holding him back, his conscious. Sure he'll steal anything from a corrupt government or mega-corporation that isn't nailed down, but then he's just as likely to accidentally drop half the take near those in need. He'll never admit this to anyone, though.
Sergeant Major Tiries Samson - Samson is the younger of two brothers who joined the United Earth Army. At age nineteen he joined the U.E. 103 rd Special Forces Battalion, and in two years rose to the rank of Sergeant first class. Unlike his brother John, he remained a Noncommissioned Officer because he preferred to stay on the front line where all the action was. His other motive was to avoid John, who was Colonel. In the opening days of the Third World War Samson lost both his arms during a surprise attack on New Philadelphia. He was given cybernetic replacements, which have given him superhuman strength. However he also received a promotion to the rank of Sergeant Major. His older brother had him promoted to keep him out of harms way in the rear of the fighting. Samson was infuriated by his brother's actions and hasn't spoken to him or his mother in over two years. In order to get himself back into the action; Samson took a position as a U.E. liaison officer to the Merc Force. He was assigned to the Caladan under Captain Primo. Little did he realize that his quest to escape the wing of his brother would involve him in the constant insanity that was life on the Caladan. Though a confident and valiant fighter, he always feels that he is battling against his brother.
Diskreet - Diskreet is a former Valdier intelligence gatherer who was fired for the use of excessive force in his career. He's not cruel; indeed, he's one of the most pleasant and friendly people you could come into contact with. The problem is that accidents, involving large objects such as star ships packed with explosives tend to follow him around. The Valdier government simply couldn't afford the damage bills. Though always seemingly happy go lucky, Diskreet can't come to grips with the degree of bad luck that appears to follow him. His life after leaving Valdier intelligence is a mystery as well, though it is apparent that something tragic may have happened to him between then and when he joined the crew of the Caladan. However, from the general levity Diskreet betrays on the outside, one would never guess the trauma and violence nested in his past.
Sera - She comes from one of the oldest races in the universe know as the Ovirons. Very few have heard of this species, but they are responsible for stabilizing the Universe after various Sark inter-dimensional travel experiments nearly caused its destruction. When a Sark attack inadvertently scattered the pieces of the stabilization device, know as the Celestial Axis, Primo and his crew were commissioned to find it. The details of why Primo was chosen are still a mystery, and Ovirons seem to be somewhat embarrassed. In any case, Sera was given human form in order to assist Primo and his team. What Sera didn't count on was that she also received the full gambit of emotions that come with being human. She fell in love with Primo simply because he made her laugh and she enjoyed it. She left Oviron under the condition that when her energy was used up she would have to return to her home world forever. The stipulation on her humanity caused her to feel the down side of human emotions for the first time. She now had something to lose. Sera normally is calm and collected, but the more she forced to use her powers for self-defense and healing, the more fearful she grows. Mortality is something she has yet to come to grips with.
Brice Creed - Creed started out in the Crimitonian Special Forces following in his father's footsteps. He had a promising career, and the love of the first Crown Princess of Crimiton. Then the Universal War erupted, and his father fell at the Battle of Armoron after saving his life. Soon afterwards, Varisa, the Princess he loved, tried to coup the Crimitonian parliament, and he was forced to fight against her. During Varisa's revolt Creed was ordered to assassinate one of her fleet commanders. He was given training in star ship operations and inserted into the fleet. Two months later he accomplished his mission, and was so sickened by the act that he left the military and went freelance as a mercenary. He became somewhat of a womanizer in an effort to forget his past love. Later he met up with Primo, and when they stole their respective ships, his brief training in star ship operations came in handy from that point on. He decided to join the Merc Force with Primo because he liked what the U.E. was fighting for. Deep down he searching for redemption in noble cause.
Anice Bretan - Her story is one of the strangest, and probably the most tragic. Anice was a Martech medic who actually died during the battle of Armoron. Her body was taken by the Sarks, and altered. The empathic abilities inherent to her people were enhanced along with her strength and reflexes. The Sarks installed implants in Anice's mind to condition her mind to be an assassin. The Sarks revived her, but much to their surprise the implants also had regenerated some of the memory centers of her brain. Anice eventually regained her memory, and with it the realization that her chances for a normal life were over. The enhancements to her empathic powers resulted in the loss of control of that ability. The only way she can shut out the emotions of those around her is through hostility. Anice is also on the run from the Sarks and her own people, who both want to use her as an assassin. She joined the crew of the Artemis for protection, and the hope that the Artemis may one-day visit a world that could repair her empathic control.
Rama Hunter - His real name Rama Havec Traies III King of the planet Arasha, located in a parallel Universe. He left his native world and Universe when his kingdom fell to the Merata, a group of sentient war machines. He fled using an experimental dimensional shift drive, in the hopes of finding assistance for the liberation of his world. His craft was damaged upon entering this Universe, and the coordinates leading home were erased. Floating nearly dead in space, he was picked up by Brice Creed in the Artemis, and since then has become a valuable member of the crew. Since Creed admired his cause, he decided to assist Hunter in finding the way back to his Universe. Hunter received his nickname from the crew of the Artemis who have come to rely upon his superior senses and strength. His cat like appearance also had something to do with it. Hunter is best described as the ideal knight, chivalrous and at the same time a valiant warrior. The only thing that haunts his soul is that he had to leave behind his people in order to find their salvation.
Princess Varisa Nalabretric - Varisa was the next in line to become the queen of Crimiton. Since the royal family was nothing more than a traditional figurehead, Varisa decided to restore her family’s power. She hoped that her lover, Creed, would have joined her side in the coup, but he sided with the parliament instead. Varisa and her allies were defeated and she was exiled from Crimiton. Alone and wanting vengeance, Varisa used the wealth she managed to hide off world to begin forming her own army. She made some headway, but the funds to accomplish her goal still eluded her. Eventually she met up with Creed again and after some persuasion (Commander Denabreo putting a gun to her head), she joined his crew. Varisa still hasn't given up her dream of returning to Crimiton in triumph, and in her mind the alliance with Creed is only a necessary evil until she can acquire the forces need to seize power. Varisa isn't inherently selfish or cruel, but her long years of high-class living have somewhat blurred her perspective. She considers her actions just regardless of how the rest of the Universe sees them.

UNITED EARTH COMMAND
Commander James Denabreo - Details of Denabreo's past are a mystery to most. He's been a general, a pirate, a mercenary, and the commander of the largest military force the local group has ever seen, before he took his place as the Commander of the U.E. and Antaran alliance. He's from old Philadelphia and was one of the few survivors of the Disek invasion on 2018. Though human, his internal anatomy resembles that of a Magaran. During his years as a mercenary and pirate, he gained the reputation as one of the great liberators of conquered worlds. That reputation also earned him the condemnation of some of the more unseemly empires. Like Primo he has always tried to put on the persona of a master criminal, put his need to help the unfortunate always seems to shine through. Even though he has settled down on Earth as the Commander of the U.E. with an Antaran wife, the need to join the fore front of the battle still persists.
Captain Tony Brandel - He is one of the few star ship captains to earn the honor of commanding the flag ship of the U.E. the UESS Philadelphia. However, it was a long hard road to the Captain's chair. His career started out well enough when he graduated from the Murobishi Space Academy in New Tokyo. His brash style of command enabled him to rise to the rank of first officer on board the UESS Liberia within three years. Then everything went down hill after the battle of Armoron, the bloodiest battle of the Universal War. Unable to cope with being the only survivor of the 50th attack wing he turned to alcohalism. He nearly lost his commission after showing up for duty drunk, or not at all. It finally took his long time friend General Jason Stener to pull him back to reality. He entered rehab, but only returned to duty when attrition began to set in on the war with the Federation. He was assigned to Philadelphia as a tactical officer, but when the Captain and first officer were killed in battale he assumed command. His experience enabled him to save the Philadelphia, and several other star ships. Pehaps that act was his own way to make up for being the sole survivor of his unit. Stener was unpressed by his performance and allowed him to stay on as the ships captain.
Lt. Commander Joane Mc Talan - She's the first officer of the Philadelphia, but she didn't start out in the fleet. Before taking her current post she was an undercover operative in U.E. Intelligence. She soon gained the reputation of being tough and stubborn fighter, but her sense of personal honor hampered her in intelligence work. She enjoyed the challenge and the danger her job afforded, but she was fed up with working behind the scenes. She eventually transfered over to the fleet, and the skills she developed as an operative enabled her to rise to the rank of Lieutenant Commander within a few years. Seeing her past as an asset, Captain Brandel took her on as his first officer. On more than one occasion her Captain has asked her to use her intelligence contacts to accomplish the mission. Even though she personally dreads the thought of ever returning to her past life, she she does see the usefulness of her old skills.
