INTRODUCTION

The concept behind Merc Force is based on the Star Dust roll playing game which I developed five years ago. The characters created by the various players were so hilarious that I decided their adventures would make an entertaining television program. Though the characters were altered somewhat, their basic personalities match those of their creators.

One of the most frequently asked questions is what is a Merc. Merc is an abbreviation for the word mercenary which is a soldier for hire. Mercs are usually hired by governments to handle jobs which they wish to have no accountability for, or to supplement the size of their own forces. In the case of Merc Force the mercenaries were hired for the latter.

Merc Force can best be defined as a science fiction comedy. Now one my think that would be highly unlikely given the description of a Merc written above. The comical side derides from the personalities of the characters and how the interact, or in most cases don't interact with each other. This by no means indicates that the characters are two dimensional, on the other hand it only serves to make them seem more like real people. After all, silly things happen to people all the time no matter what situation they're in. However, since all of the characters have detailed histories, most of which are not of an amusing nature, the series will have a serious side to it as well.

BACKGROUND STORY

In the year 2045 the noble experiment that was the United Earth (U.E.) government failed. The nations that seceded from the union formed their own loose alliance known as the federation of Independent States (F.I.S.). One year later World War III began, and spread beyond the confines of the Earth.

After forming an alliance with the Sectagon Empire, the Federation achieved numerical superiority in star ship production. To counter this new threat, the U.E. and their allies have begun to hire teams of mercenary star ships to supplement their beleaguered forces. This special fleet comprising of pirates, criminals, and mercenaries has been code-named the Merc Force. Their mission is to harass enemy shipping, escort merchant ships, and gather intelligence in areas where United Earth forces cannot operate.
