MBBS

The MBBS Course of MAMC has produced 5802 graduates to date (1999) and lays the foundation for the students' long association with MAMC. The MBBS course gives the student a medical license to practice in India as a general practitioner. It includes 1 year of compulsory internship.

180 students are admitted annually. Distribution of seats is as follows:

  1. 15% of total seats are filled in through the entrance examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on an all-India basis
  2. 15% of the seats are Reserved. for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7½% for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates (Total no = 41)
  3. 9 seats Reserved. for sons/daughters/widows of Armed personnel disabled/killed in action during hostilities.
  4. 6 seats are Reserved. for Govt. of India nominees
  5. The remaining seats (97) are to be filled via the DPMT (see below)

The DPMT (Delhi Pre-Medical Test) is conducted by the Delhi University for admission to the three medical colleges in Delhi - MAMC, LHMC and UCMS. The students who clear the exam get to choose their college according to rank. MAMC is generally the first choice for most students. Details of admission procedure can be obtained from them directly:

The MBBS course lasts 4½ years, plus 1 year internship. The course is divided into three 'professionals' viz. MBBS I, II and III. Dates here are given taking the students admitted in 2000 as representative.

MBBS I: 16th July 2000 - July 2001

MBBS II: August 2001 - December 2002

MBBS III (Part 1): January 2003 - Nov/Dec 2003

MBBS III (Part 2): January 2004 - Nov/Dec 2005

Internship: January 2005 - December 2005

If a student fails to clear any of these 'profs', he is to give the Supplementary exam (Supplie) 4-6 months after the Annual exams. Various terminal exams, class tests, viva voce, etc. are also held and contribute towards the final score. Pass marks are 50%. The average student scores about 60%.

An Intern is entitled to a total of 12 leaves in a year all-inclusive. Any extra leaves taken can incur a repeat posting or simply extension of internship by the same number of days.

Total Annual fee, incl. various security deposits, development fund, etc. is Rs. 1249/- (about US $30). Needless to say, the government foots most of the bill
