On running the results of the entrance through Microsoft Excel and
this is what was found.

If an exam were conducted fairly, one would expect a uniform
distribution of people with high ranks. That is, high ranks
would be distributed without regard to where someone wrote the
exam.

Also, if, for example, that persons who wrote the exams in
Centre X made up 10 percent of the overall results, I would
expect a similar percentage of people from Centre X making up
the top 1000, and the top 500 and so on. As it happens, this is
true for all the centres, except one.

In the Roll Numbers starting with 212, which is Lucknows, several amazing things happen. 

That state makes up about 10 percent out of the total list,

But if you look at the top 500,
its share goes up to 14 %;    

In the top 300 it has gone up
further, to  18 %;       

In the top 50, 
it is a whopping 32 %;  

In the top 25, 
it is a miraculous 44 %.

Finally in the top 10,
it is mind numbing 70%.

No other center shows this relentless upward trend. 

In all of
them the percentages for the top 500, the top 300, the top 50,
and so on, remains close to the overall percentage. The happy
state which makes up the largest share of all, the one with Roll
Numbers starting with 207, has an overall share of 18 %. This
state’s share of the top ranks remains around 18 %, and the
highest it ever reaches is 23 %,  absolutely nothing similar to
the three- and four-fold increases we saw in UP.

You can verify all of this, if you are familiar with MS Excel,
by going to the results site  www.aiims.ac.in  , copying the
results, column by column, into Excel and then use the Text To
Columns command to bring the ranks and roll numbers into
separate cells.

Sheet 1 has the raw data showing only Roll Numbers and ranks,
Sheet 2 has the percentages in various rank ranges  for the
different centers. The results for Centre 212 is at the top. 

So what does this mean ? That something happened in Centre 212
that made it a center of excellence, or is it a center of
something else ? It is also likely that if something wrong has
occured, this is the only sort of evidence we are going to see;
short of one of the persons involved in this scam having a
conscience attack and confessing.

And does anybody expect that to happen ?
