Mentors Tell Their Story...
Everyone has a story: the first time you went to a school dance, the first new friend you made at Pioneer, the first time a sixth grader rolled over your foot with his rolling backpack. At first, it may seem like just that- a story. But once it is shared with another, it becomes a connection. A bond. It’s something that ties you to that person, whether it is a common experience or a lesson learned.
When you share your story with a sixth grader, it’s even more. It’s a promise of things to come. Your stories and your examples light the torch for the excitement here on campus. They shape the perception of new students, make them feel safe, and inform them of all the ins-and-outs of Pioneer.
Think back to your first year. Who did you look to for advice and guidance? Did they give you an example of the type of person you wanted to become? We all have people we look to that share their stories with us, give us advice, and teach us a few things along the way.
So mentors, we ask you this… What’s your story?
What is a Mentor Anyway?
As a mentor, you will play one of the most important roles in the transition of our incoming 6th graders. You will be working with your fellow peers to create an inviting, supportive atmosphere for our new students. They will be looking to you for guidance, reassurance, and assistance in becoming a REAL Wildcat!!
Some of your duties as a mentor will include:
- meeting with the other mentors for training and practice
- being responsible for a group of 6-8 sixth grade students
- assisting with communication between your mentor advisors and 6th graders
- helping 6th grade students understand the ways of middle school
and most importantly...
- being an excellent mentor to the sixth grade students and an awesome role model for all of our Wildcats!
