| Reflections on the formative Ape men cause me much grief For they came from the primordial ooze. Once I laughed at them and ate my beef And then they removed their shoes. On the stench that bellowed forth I wretched, And in their eyes, glimpsed the revolting gleam. Self- doubt crept silently into my chest. And my eyes began to stream. Running to my secret place I sobbed, And falling to the ground I hid, But through the trees they ducked and bobbed Many armed, like a giant squid. With a sudden start I awoke in sheets, twisted and torn It was time for school, and I was late, on another third grade morn. Gavin |
