How to join Mensa Mensa offers membership only to those whose intelligence lies in the top 2 percent of the world's population in intelligence. So, a person willing to become a Mensan has to first test his intelligence. Testing and measurement of human intelligence All human abilities -- verbal, mathematical, reasoning ability, etc. -- are said to arise from the "g"-factor, or Intelligence, as defined in Applied Psychology. Intelligence Quotient (IQ), the measure of intelligence, is defined in a statistical manner. The intelligence of an average person is taken as 100 to construct a system of defining and measuring IQ. The Cattel, Binet and Weschler are the common scales of measuring Intelligence. The standard deviation of intelligence is 23 in the Cattel Scale and 15-16 in the other two scales. The Mensa admission level is 148 in the Cattel Scale, or slightly above the two standard deviations above normal. How do I prepare for the Mensa admission test? There is no preparation required for this test at all. Just come to the test centre with a cool mind and remain relaxed. The testing is done using the 'culture fair' method. This particular test involves matching pictograms. In this way, it is effectively ensured that only the basic intelligence of a person is measured, and he/she can get no extra help from any prior knowledge. After the test After the test, if you have a score above 148 in the Cattel scale, you are eligible to join Mensa. At any time, you may become a member of Mensa at any of its worldwide chapters by paying the requisite fees. If you fail to qualify, you cannot take the same test for another year.
