Menorca - May 2005

Some people go on holiday for the sun, or the sea, or the sand ... and some people go for the archaeology!

In May 2005, Beardy and I took a sneaky week off work and headed to Menorca to check out the things the average package tourist doesn't.

Check out where we went by following the links on the left, and see below for the practical details of the trip.  The spelling of the names of the sites varies from map to map and sign to sign - I have used the signposted names in general.

Getting There

Thomson flight from Leeds Bradford early Wednesday morning, and with the return leg leaving the following Wednesday afternoon, it was an 8 day trip.  Flights worked out at about £120 each.

Accommodation

Nothing in the package market looked appealing so we booked a hotel direct.  This one in fact: http://www.menorcaok.com/gb_zona_d111.html
Very quiet - it was only week 2 of the season, and not a Burger King or English Breakfast it sight - very clean and friendly.  The hotel specification doesn't mention the 4 swimming pools or that the apartments have jacuzzi baths .....

Getting Around

We pre-ordered a hire car from the airport from Expedia.  Most of the resorts had a selection of hire companies, with a week's hire from 140 euros - similar to what we'd paid but usually for a bottom spec model.
