If Tomorrow Never Comes Chapter 9
Ann stroked the young boys forehead. Her gaze looked over the small boy's frame, as tears fell from her eyes. His tiny body even looked smaller, compared to all the tubes coming from him. Her head hung low, letting the tears fall. She felt a hand touch her shoulder, she turned her head, meeting the nurse. "Come this way Mrs. Richardson, the doctor would like to see you in his office," she told her. Ann stood, leaned down, kissing Brian's cheek, then walked out of the room, following the nurse. "Right in this room, the doctor will be in momentarily," The nurse said. Ann walked into the room, sitting down in the chair, quickly wiping the tears from her eyes . She turned her head, at the knock on the door. She watched as the doctor came into the room. He slowly sat down, his face had no expression. He looked up, his eyes meeting hers."Mrs. Richardson," he stated. Ann nodded her head. He took a deep breath, over looking the papers that lay in front of him. "It seems that Brian has developed a very high fever," he said, his eyes still skimming the pages. Ann nodded her head once again. "Is it the flu?" her soft voice asked. He sadly shook his head. "Mrs. Richardson, I'm afraid that I have found out that your nephew has a heart defect," he said. Ann's eyes went wide with shock. "W...what?"she stammered. "I...it was just a simple fever...a...all kids get fevers...," she said, tears falling from her eyes. He got up from his seat, walking across the room, putting his hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry," he said simply. "I think it would be best if you contact the parents, then I can explain everything". She nodded, wiping the tears that fell from her eyes. She stood, "Thank you doctor, I...I will contact them," she told him. As she started walking out of the room she heard, "Mrs. Richardson?" The doctor asked. She turned around, "Yes?" she said, her voice shaky. He sighed, "I am sorry" he stated. She nodded, thanking him again, then walked out of his office.
Ann slowly walked into Brian's room, tears falling at the sight of him. She walked up to him, sitting down in the chair next to his bed. She grabbed his tiny hand, grasping it tightly in her hand. Her head hung, tears falling endlessly from her eyes. She turned her head, at the sound of a young boys voice, yelling in the halls. She slowly got up, walking into the hall. She gasped, at the site of her son, running down the hall, calling her. Kevin ran as fast as his small legs would run. "M...momma!" He screamed as he saw her across the hall. He ran up to her, stopped to catch his breath. "D....d....daddy...h..h...he," Kevin said, tears falling from his eyes. Ann hugged her son tightly, rubbing his back. "What's wrong Kevin?" she asked. Tears flowed from his eyes, "D...daddy he he.....he hurt....daddy's in pain....he was crying momma" Kevin said. Ann's eyes went wide. She grabbed Kevin's hand, running down the halls. She got to the waiting room, as she frantically searched the room. She gasped, at the sight of her husband, laying on the floor, moaning in pain. Ann screamed..... |
