Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance)

1. What is Reconciliation?
   - It is a sacrament instituted by Christ by which through an authorized priest, we obtain the fhtmiveness for our actual and reconciles us with God and His Church.

2. Who can give us the sacrament of Reconciliation?
   - The priest or bishop acts for Jesus in the sacrament of Reconciliation.

3. What is sin?
   - Sin is disobedience to God's and the Church's laws.

4. How many kinds of personal sins are there?
   - Mortal and venial sin

5. What are the condition necessary to become a sinner?
   a. A serious matter with the laws and commandments
   b. Sufficient reflection - mindful for the matter
   c. Full consent of the will - free to choose and do it

6. Who can receive the sacrament of Reconciliation?
   - Any baptized person

7. What is necessary to make a good confession?
   - Examination of conscience, contrition, resolution, confession, and penance

8. What is an examination of conscience?
   - Remember your sins from the time of the last confession until now and how many times you commit them.

9. What is contrition?
   - Sincere sorrowful of the soul for the sins committed.

10. What is resolution?
   - Is a firm determination of not sinning again.

11. How many kinds of contrition are there?
   - Perfect contrition and Imperfect Contrition

12. What is an act of perfect contrition?
   - When we are truly sorry for our sins through our love for God

13. What is an act of imperfect contrition?
   - When we are sorry for our sins because of embarrassment and the fear of God's punishment.

14. What is confession?
   - The telling of our sins to an authorized priest to obtain fhtmiveness.

15. What is penance?
   - We do whatever the priest tells us to do because of our sins.

16. What do we receive in the sacrament of Reconciliation?
   a. Our sins are fhtmiven
   b. Our soul is restored to the state of grace
   c. We are set free from all the eternal punishment and at least some of the temporal punishment due to our sins
   d. Strengthens us to avoid sins in the future.

17. From what sins does Jesus fhtmive us in Reconciliation?
   - From our personal sins

18. What are the main reasons why people commit sin?
   a. Pride: is inordinate or uncontrolled self-esteem.
   b. Covetousness: is an excessive desire for worldly goods.
   c. Lust: is uncontrolled sexual desire.
   d. Anger: is a strong, uncontrolled passion of displeasure.
   e. Gluttony: is excessive indulgence in food and/or water.
   f. Envy: is sorrow at another's good fortune.
   g. Sloth: is spiritual, mental or physical laziness which causes a person to neglect his duties.

19. What are the six sins against the Holy Spirit?
   a. Despair of one's salvation
   b. Presumption of saving oneself without merit or repentance.
   c. Resisting the know truth
   d. Envy of the graces received by other
   e. Obstinacy in one's sins
   f. Final impenitence.

20. What is the form of Reconciliation?
   - "I absorb you, in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit".

21. What is the matter of Reconciliation?
