Q: Why you start making this site? A: It was one boring summer in 2003 where I got the idea to make a catholic website. It has grown into to include Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể (Vietnamese Eucharist Youth Movement) and Hướng Đạo (Boy Scout of America & Vietnam), which I am a former of. First it was just about Catholicism in Vietnamese but later consider to include english.
Q: Where did all this contents come from? A: It is a combination of books I have kept over the years of Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể (VEYM), Hướng Đạo (BS), Old and New Testaments and my knowledge of the bible, TNTT (VEYM) and Hướng Đạo (BS).
Q: Can I use contents from your site? A: I get this alot and I would like to say that it is free for anyone to use but only for educational purposes (home, school teaching, record, site organizations) and not personal use (self distribution or sales). Using contents here for your own catholic website (TNTT or Hướng Đạo) is okay with me and return source is not necessary since it is free to use for educational and not personal purposes. Also to use the information appropriately and this site is not responsible to any wrong or misleading information.
Q: Can I link my site to your site? A: We would appreciate it but make sure it is catholic, Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể or Hướng Đạo (BSA) related site.
Q: How do you make your website? A: First I pick a host to host my site and I pick Geocities, it is free, provide 15 mb, support many image files but not php or cgi really well. To use Geocities, you need a Yahoo Email Account. After that, you have 2 choices: PageWizard; a step by step to set and making a page or PageBuilder; a self construct and design. You also have a 3rd option which is to upload FrontPage. To do that, you click on "Upload File" (right side) after you login. But when you upload FrontPage, you can only edit it in "File Manager" or upload every time you update. FrontPage upload is much easier and more convient than doing it on PageWizard or Pagebuilder. Though FrontPage requires you to know html. You can search for other cool stuff in javascript, cgi, php, asp, java (look below) if you know how to do it. I recommend that you do that use too many scripts or graphic one, it can make you site look unprofessional and hurt those that use an old version of Internet Explorer or Netscape.
Q: Where can I get cool stuff from Javascript, pHp, ASP, Java or CGI? A: There are a lot of sites in which you can get those cool coding scripts. You can search for it in Yahoo.com or Google.com or look at some of my favorites: - Dynamic Drive: Site that offer DHTML - Javascript Internet: Lots of good javascript and many funny one too. - CGI-Ban-PHP: Comprise of a lot of javascript, cgi, php, java and more. - Web Script: Provide a lot of javascript, java, php, cgi; many complicate and many easy one.
Q: What are good free hosting site? A: There are many other site hosting, you just have to look and read their service, but I have 3 that I like and recommend. Geocities, Angel Fire and Tripod. - Geocities: Geocities is probably the best free one because it support so many files. It provide 15 mb space, many interactive if you use PageBuilder or PageWizard, FrontPage upload, file manager, html edit and more.... - Angel Fire: It provide 20 mb space, site builder, manager tool, recreational stuff and more.... - Tripod: Gives up 20 mb space, site builder, html editor, file manager and more....
Q: How do you type vietnamese words? A: First you have to download VPS Key at vps.org. You can choose to type it in Unicode, VPS, Vietnet and so on ... For each of those type, you can only use a certain number of fonts, like Unicode you can only use Times New Roman and Verdana ... For VPS, you can only use font that start with VPS .... In your html view in frontpage or notepad, look for "charset=windows-1252" in one of the "Meta http-equiv". Change that to "charset=UTF-8" so peopel viewing your site are able to view vietnamese words correctly.
Q: How come my computer won't display vietnamese words correctly? A: If you are using a very old version of Internet Explorer or Netscape, than that would be the problem. You probably need Internet Explorer 4+ or Netscape 3+. Another would be your explorer encoding. Click "View" on the explorer menu bar. Highlight "Encoding" or "Characters Encoding". Pick "Unicode (UTF-8) and you should be able to view it correctly. Some site it will not work if they did not type the viet word correctly in the first place.
Q: How can I type vietnamese word on PageBuilder or PageWizard for Geocities? A: Sorry to say that I don't think you can type vietnamese word on PageBuilder or PageWizard for Geocities. I have yet to find a way to do it. But using Geocities, you don't have to use PageBuilder to type it. Just use FrontPage or Notepad to do your website and type vietnamese words in there and then upload them into Geocities. The FrontPage will be your page.
Q: Can you make me a layout for my site? A: I used to make free layout for my Anime site Naruto Jutsu (I'm the webmaster). I don't have free layout to give out anymore and don't plan to make anyone a site layout to put online.
Q: I don't like my long Geocities url, where can I get a short url? A: I got mine from dot.tk. You can pick any name you want but it will end in .tk and not .com. My is http://www.chuakito.tk. It is shorter than Geocities domain and can match with your site title.
Q: Do you have any special event section, like pray for someone or daily prayer? A: I don't have plan to do a section like pray for someone or a daily prayer or event special event like the month of Rosary. Sorry
