Sacrament of Holy Orders

1. What is the sacrament of Holy Orders?
   - Jesus share His spiritual powers and grace with the candidate to perform worthily the duties of Christ's ministry.

2. When did Jesus institute the sacrament of Holy Orders?
   - During the last Supper, Jesus said, "Do this in remembrance of Me". (Lk 22:19)

3. In the sacrament what power did Jesus give to the priest?
   a. Teaching and preaching
   b. Offering sacrifice to God
   c. Giving the Sacraments
   d. Rule the people

4. Why does the priest live a life of celibacy?
   a. Imitate Christ's life of celibacy.
   b. Free from any bondage of marriage in order to have more time for God's people and God's work.

5. What are our responsibility toward the priest?
   a. To pray
   b. To respect and obey them when he teaches according to God's law and the Church's law.
   c. To participate and give suggestion to help build the kingdom of God.

6. How many kinds of ordination are there?
   - Deaconate (deacon), priesthood, episcopate (bishop). (archbishop, cardinal, and pope)

7. Who ministers the sacrament
   - The bishop

8. Who may receive Holy Orders?
   - A man who is a good Catholic, has prepared himself by study, freely with good intention, and has been accepted by the bishop may receive Holy Orders.

9. What are the signs of Holy Orders?
   - Is made up of the laying on of hands and a special prayer.
   - The bishop places his on the candidate's head to show the giving of the Holy Spirit, with His power and grace.

10. What is the function of deacons?
   - Deacons help priest by baptizing, reading God's Word to the faithful, preaching the Words, distributing Communion, blessing couples who receive the sacrament of Marriage, and performing many works of service.

11. How many kinds of deacons are there?
   - There are 2 kinds of deacons. Men preparing for the priesthood are ordained as deacons before being ordained as priest. They remain deacons only for a time. There are also permanent deacons. These are single and married men who will remain deacons for the rest of the lives.
