Sacrament of Confirmation

1. What is Confirmation?
   - Confirmation is the sacrament in which the Holy Spirit comes to us in a special way and enables us to profess our faith to be a strong and perfect Christians and be the soldiers of Jesus (Christ's witnesses on earth).

2. Who may received Confirmation
   - Any baptized Catholics who has not been confirmed may receive Confirmation. Also, the church urges all Catholics to study before receiving the sacrament because it expects them to live up to their faith.

3. What is necessary to receive Confirmation worthily?
   - Received the sacrament of Baptism already
   - Study well of the Catholic faith, especially the sacrament of Confirmation
   - Be free from mortal sins and have a desire for it

4. Could this sacrament be receive more than once?
   - No, because it imprints on the soul a spiritual mark, called a character, which lasts forever.

5. What is the matter of Confirmation?
   - It consists of the imposition of the hand on the candidate's head together with the anointing of the forehead with sacred chrism. The anointing is done in the form of a cross.

6. What is the form of Confirmation?
   - "Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit", or "Be received the Holy Spirit, the gift of the Father"
   a. Seal: indicate the conferring of the spiritual character that makes the confirmed more Christ like. (In Christ, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit who had been promise. Eph 1:13)
   b. Gift: means the Holy Spirit Himself: "You will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit"

7. Who is the minister of Confirmation?
   - The bishop is the ordinary minister of Confirmation. Priest my confirm in certain circumstances such as during an emergency or when have permission.

8. What does the oil stands for?
   - The oil stands for the Holy Spirit's descent upon Christ (Mark 1:10) is a spiritual anointing, the oil stands for the Holy Spirit's descent. Also, since oil was formerly used to strengthen the limbs of athletes, the oil in scared chrism alludes to the spiritual strength conferred in Confirmation.

9. What is indicated by the imposition of the hand?
   - The imposition of the hand indicated a bestowed of the Spirit and therefore, of power. God's fatherly love and blessing are also recalled.

10. What is indicated by the anointing in the form of a cross?
   - The form of the Cross indicate a spiritual character or seal that the spirit bestows. The Cross stands for our redemption by Christ, the source of every sacrament. It proclaims our willing to share in Christ's suffering and to remain true to Him.

11. What is the duty of the sponsor?
   - The sponsor guarantees the Church of the good intentions of the person he represents. He presents the candidate to the Bishop. Later, by his prayers, words and example, the sponsors is to see that the confirmed fulfills his duties as a Christian.

12. Who may be a sponsor?
   - A sponsor must be a good Catholic, already confirmed. It is now preferred that either the candidate's baptismal godparent also act as his Confirmation sponsor. However, the choice of a special sponsor is still permitted. A parent, too, may be the Confirmation sponsor of his or her child.

13. What are the chief effect of the Sacrament of Confirmation?
   - The chief effects of the sacrament of Confirmation are an increase of the divine life of sanctifying grace in those who place no obstacle, a special sacramental grace, and a lasting spiritual seal or character.

14. What is meant by "Fruits of the Holy Spirit"?
   - The fruits of the Holy Spirit are acts of virtue -- good work, desires, and sentiments inspired in us by the Holy Spirit.
