Sacraments

1. Sacrament is an outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace.

2. There are 3 things necessary to constitute a true sacraments:
   a. Instituted by Christ
   b. An outward sign (Form (words pronounced - Matter (material used)
   c. Internal grace

3. There are 7 sacraments:
   - Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist, Reconciliation (Penance), Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, Holy Matrimony

4. The Sacraments are divide into 3 groups:
   a. Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist (Beginning of Christian life)
   b. Reconciliation: Penance and Anointing of the Sick (Peace-making)
   c. Vocation (Service): Holy Orders and Holy Matrimony

5. Through the sacraments of initiation, people become members of the Churhc and are welcome into the community of believers in order to live as true followers of Jesus.

6. Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist are called the sacrament of Initiation because:
   a. Baptism: Celebrate the new Christian's sharing in the life of Christ.
   b. Confirmation: We are called to grow in faith and to witness to Christ in our words and actions.
   c. Holy Eucharist: Recalls Christ's presence in our life and to remember His death and resurrection, and celebrate our unity as a Church.

7. The purpose of the Sacraments are:
   a. To make men holy
   b. To build up the Body of Christ, the Church
   c. To give worship to God

8. There are 3 Sacraments that we can received only once:
   - Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Order because it produce in the soul a spiritual mark which can never be lost.

9. Holy Eucharist is the most important sacrament because Jesus give his own Body and Blood to us and also gives grace.

10. Jesus gave us the sacraments.

11. We receive grace when we receive the sacraments if we:
   - Free from mortal sin, desire, and have good intention such as with faith and love.

12. How can we grow in grace, virtue and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit?
   a. Receiving sacraments
   b. Praying
   c. Doing good deeds

13. Baptism and Reconciliation are called sacraments of the dead because it gives the supernatural life of sanctifying grace to the dead because of their sins.
