Mein Honig Home Port
Mein Honig is a 1974 Aquarius 23' sailboat.  She is named "Mein Honig" which is German and translates to My Honey in English.  Her port of call is Peoria IL., where we sail her in the upper and lower Peoria lakes on the Illinois River.
sailing:  n.  the fine art of getting wet and becoming ill while slowing going nowhere at great expense.

I purchased "Mein Honig" in Novemeber of 2000. I think I spent that entire winter counting days and reading " Sailing for Dummies."  I finally put her into a slip in the spring of 2001.  I was new to sailing, having never been on a sailboat, only dreaming of it for years.  My wife Nicole, for whom the boat is named after, talked me into buying her.  I was ready for my first sailing season!  After all, I had read my Sailing for Dummies book 3 times.  Needless to say, that first year was a challenge to say the least.  While I would highly recommend the book I read, I found out what a wonderful group of people sailors are.  I learned so much from the other sailors in the marina who were always willing to lend a hand or advice when needed.  It seems over the last few years I have learned so much, but have also realized that I have so much yet to learn, but then it's not the destination that we thrive on, but rather the journey that is so exciting.
