(Fisher Branch)

A concise history

Immaculate
Conception Church in Fisher Branch MB

The first holy mass was celebrated in the home of Mr. Simon Menard on September 1, 1911, by Rev. Father Ozias Corbeil. The Reverend Father travelled once monthly to celebrate mass until January 1, 1912. He was appointed pastor of the Immaculate Conception Paris of De Laval (Fisher Branch) by his Grace F.A Langevin, O.M.I. Archbishop of St. Boniface in January of 1912. He resided with Mr. Simon Menard until December 7, 1912.

Plans for a church building were started in March of 1912 and the first holy Mass was celebrated in the sacristy on December 8, 1912 and in the church proper on December 15, 1912. The building was blessed by Archbishop Langevin O.M.I. on January 26, 1913. The sacrament of confirmation also took place on this occasion for the first time; 34 hildren and 3 adults received the sacrament.  The church was built on land donated by Mr. William Bruneau at SE 13-24-2W. The cemetery is still there today. A contract was granted to M. Arthur Coutu following a meeting of the parish on October 20, 1920 to take apart and move the building to the present site for the sum of $400, a time limit of thirty days was one of the stipulations of the contract. Under the pastoral care and guidance of Rev. Father Francois Leroux, the church was rebuilt and also a rectory constructed in 1921. The new building was blessed by His Grace A. A. Sinnott, Archbishop of Winnipeg on November 9, 1922.
