Losing Grip 03: Doin What I Gots Ta

It was the middle of the afternoon and Brynn was sitting at the empty
bar of Identity reviewing contracts and paper work for up coming shows
when her cell phone began ringing. She let it ring 3 times before
pulling it out of her back pocket. She looked at the number displayed
on the screen. It was an out of state number she didn't recognize.

"Brynn Matthews," she answered.

"Hi, Brynn. Its..."

Without hesitation, Brynn quickly hung up before the person on the
other line could finish. It was Benji...the ex-boyfriend. The one that
screwed with her body, mind, and life then tried to turn it all around
making it seem like it was her fault. After not seeing him for a year
and a half he was calling her. He probably found out she had booked 2
shows for his band at Identity, and called her to bitch her out about
it.

Before she had time to think anymore about it, her cell phone rang
again. She picked her phone up off the table where she sat it. Once
again she looked at the number. It was Laura. Brynn let out a sigh of
releif and answered the call.

"I'm so glad its you. You'll never beleive who just called me."

"It Joel, not Laura, don't hang up!"

There was silence on the line for a few moments while Brynn decided if
she wanted to talk to him.

"I only hang up on your brother, and whatever he had you call me
for...I don't wanna hear about it," she informed him immpatiently.

"First of all you did hang up on me a few seconds ago when I called,
and my brother doesn't know I'm calling you."

"Oh," Brynn forgot that Benji and Joel sounded exactly a like on the
phone, afterall they were twins. "Then why did you call?"

"To ask you why in the hellyou booked us for 2 shows at Identitiy!"
Joel sounded pissed.

"Is that a serious question? I'm public relations and talent
coordinator at a popular club. My customers wanted and GC and a NFG
show. I'm giving them both for one price, two different nights."

"Thats not what I ment."

"Oh I'm sorry I forgot, saying what you don't mean runs in the family."
Brynn shot back at him.

"So I'm guessing that asking you if your still mad at him is
unneccessary." Joel's voice had calmed down.

Brynn took a deep breath. She hated being a bitch to Joel. He wasn't
the one she hated...Benji was. She couldn't blame Joel for looking out
for his brother.

"Look, I didn't book you guys here to unravel some large plan to get
back at Benji or piss him off, if thats what your trying to get at.
When you guys get here I'm gonna be myself and do the same thing I do
everyday, and none of that includes getting back at ex-boyfriends."

"Will you do me a favor then? Don't show up at the shows, or anywhere
Benji is."

Brynn scoffed at what Joel was asking her to do. "Is that his request?
Thats like me asking him not to play in the band."

"No its my request."

"Wait a minute, you haven't told him about the shows yet have you?"

"Actually we have, and suprisingly he's cool with it." Joel paused for
a moment. "but he also thinks you moved outta town and won't be showing
up."

Brynn shook her head and motioned for Mike, the bar tender who was busy
stocking the bar for that evening, to get her a drink. She was being
told to much information to handle on a sober mind.

"Why doesn't that suprise me. This all just one big plea for me to
disappear for 3 days isn't it?" Her voice grew more angry with every
word. "Well I'm not gonna. If Beni can't grow up and be mature about
being around me, then I suggest Chad or Steve fill in for him during
the shows."

"I'm just trying to avoid another possible situation." Joel assured
her.

"Whatever...you do what you gotta do. But just know that I expect at
least 3/4ths of GC and a drummer to play 2 shows at my club. And I will
be there." With that Brynn hung up the phone.
