Kylie, who was so nice to send me lots of juicy Kelly Gang details, spotted Orlando hanging out with Heath Ledger at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. | More Historical Information on Joe Byrne: Thanks to Kylie! Joe Byrne was a relatively well educated, quiet young man. Rumor has it that Byrne was the "brains" of the gang, and, as he had more schooling, he was also the gang's scribe. As a matter of fact, he wrote many poems and bush ballads--some of which are still sung today. Byrne was killed at a Glenrowan Inn -- while lifting his helmet to drink to the longevity of the Kelly Gang, he was shot in the neck by an officer. His body was then horridly displayed next to where Ned Kelly was hung. The Facts: Heath Ledger will star as the title character, Ned Kelly. Other cast members include: Laurence Kinlan and Kerry Condon as Dan and Kate Kelly, Rachel Griffiths as Mrs. Scott, Geoffry Rush as Superintendent Hare, and Naomi Watts as Julia Cook. Summary: Based on the true story of Ned Kelly (Ledger) and his brother Dan, sons of an Irish pig thief exiled to the Australian penal colony in 1843, who formed the core of the Kelly Gang (with two other men). They were an outlaw gang that roamed across Australia for over two wild years (1878-1880). Kelly was a clever bandit, making his own "bullet proof" armor. He was first arrested at age 16 after stealing a horse, but became an outlaw when he killed a police officer for harassing his brother. More info to come as it becomes available... |
