Kolin's Story

My name is Kolin, and I was developing normally, if not a little advanced. I grew very quickly, born at 8 pounds even, I was 12 pounds at one month. That growth rate continued, I grew and developed normally. When I was 15 months old I went Trick or treating and even remembered to say "Thank you".

The problems began when I had four shots at one time,TRiHIBit(DTaP and HIB combo), MMR and the IPV. I got ear infections all the time. The infections continued until I went to the hospital with a fever of 105. Then I started having accidents, started not paying attention and stopped talking. I could not tell anyone what was wrong, I did not know. I would let out my frustration and hurt myself and others. I would spend hours enraputred with flashing or innate objects. I did not know it, but I have Autism. I do not see the world like everyone does, I have trouble understanding the simplest of tasks.

Mommy took me to a good Doctor, who took his time to find out the problem. He ran many tests, and told my mommy and daddy what the disease Autism is. He suggests mommy look into changing what I eat, take milk and wheat out of my diet,also know as Gluten Free/Casien Free diet. I am allergic to milk, but we found that out before I went to the doctor, so getting rid of milk was easy. The hard part was the wheat, you would be amazed how many places you find wheat other than bread! It was working! I could finally tell my mommy and daddy that I loved them. I can see the world clearly! I started to talk!

Mommy started finding friends who were experiencing the problems that I am, they suggested mommy investigate ABA training for me. Mommy and Daddy decided that this was the best program for me to make it! To learn and grow into a normal child, who laughs and plays with friends.

Everyday I grow and change, I have lots of people who care about me and want me to be best me I can be. We work hard, but now I have developed one year in six months time!

I will make it, I will recover!

March 2003-

I am almost there, follow the links to see my progress. I didn't like not being able to talk to my family and everyday I talk more and more. I also enjoy making new friends and exploring the world. Everyday mom celebrates that fact I am a normal 4 year old little boy, in almost everything I do, good and not so good.
