Summer '03

These are pictures of folks at home, mostly from last summer.

This is Andy and I in his room over winter break. He got a digital camera for Christmas and has been taking pictures like mad. Mostly of himself, but some cool artsy stuff as well. This is the first and thus far only picture of me with my new haircut (first big chop since 6th grade, I think...over a foot of hair, gone) and they only picture of Andy and I together (and the other ones we took that day, but one or both of us looks bad in all of them) so here it is.

This is Darren, Jo, and Andy in New York. The four of us went there to see Blue Man Group on their concert tour. This was easily one of the greatest experiences of my life. We were there for three or four days, I think, living with some of Darren's distant relatives that we barely saw while we were there. We lived in their basement (like a mini-apartment) and woke up every day...Darren would go upstairs and shower, and Jo, Andy, and I would lay on the floor for a little while longer, and then we'd all play Mario Kart and take turns showering. We went out, took the subway into the city, and walked around each afternoon, and it was just an amazing little adventure. And freaking Blue Man Group...wow. We'd all seen their regular show before, but this was just overwhelming and awesome. Venus Hum opened for them, and they, too, were mind blowing. But BMG did a spectacular cover of "Baba O'Reilly (Teenage Wasteland)" that we all loved. We'd listened to the original on the way to New York and talked about how we all liked the song, and then...wow.

 A book about shex!

Fun little story behind this one. The family we stayed with seemed to be pretty religious. We all had to gather hands and say grace our first night there, so imagine my surprise when I found, in the downstairs bathroom, a book about sex. I came out, brushing my teeth, and said to Andy in thrilled excitement: "There's a book about shex in there!" Most people would ignore a toothbrush-induced lisp, but not Andy. He just said, "A book about shex!" with just as much enthusiasm. And I giggled myself silly and probably drooled a lot of toothpaste spit everywhere. Anyway, Andy still picks on me about that. This is him and Jo with the book itself--"Remaking Love: The Feminization of Sex". Andy looks shocked and horrified, and Jo looks...ready to do him. Fun times.

SSome more New York pictures:

Please...no fisting jokes.

Darren looking charming, Andy being hot, and Jo with a giant fist. Restrain yourself, please...

Cubism gone tragically wrong.F*ck you.

Jo rescuing Andy from some particularly threatening modern art, and Darren, Andy, and Jo making fun of me. I went to flip Darren off earlier on in the trip, and due to some tragic miscommunication between my brain and my digits, I accidentally gave him a thumbs up instead. I will never live that down.

Andy and Darren next to a building. Jo was calling her uncle on the "You're Hot" phone, so the boys had to get their picture taken. And then there's Andy hanging out with some ganjariffic graffiti.

So, like I was saying...

To the left, we have Darren standing on this weird little bronze turtle-ish thing. There was this park next to the water that had all kinds of strange statues and creatures, like the one in between the completely natural and totally uncontrived conversation Darren and Andy are having... And then below that, we have our trio at Friendly's during our ride back. We were an hour or so from home and very hungry, so we stopped. By then, however, no one wanted me taking their picture anymore.

Not that they did all along, anyway.
