Techniques

Every so often, I have to do some creative thinking to figure out how to machine a part. Sometimes I let other people be creative and then steal their ideas, but that's besides the point. Either way, there are certain tricky jobs that I've found good solutions for. This is an attempt to share some of these techniques.

Disclaimer: These techniques are not the only way to perform these tasks. They're simply the ones that I have sucessfully used. If you have a better way, let me know about it!

Locomotive Drive Wheels. What do you do when when your chuck was actually too BIG for a job. Answer: Use a sacrificial faceplate.

A Cast Crankshaft. How to machine the throw? Answer: Build a simple fixture for each crankshaft end.
