Collett-McKay Picnic Enjoyed Saturday

The 89th annual Collett-McKay picnic was held on the family picnic grounds near New Burlington, owned and used for that occasion on the second Saturday of August each year. This was the first time members ever remembered waking to find it raining on the day of the picnic, although they were not disheartened and began to gather as usual at 10 a. m. With clearing skies, the basket dinner was enjoyed a little late in the beautiful sugar camp woods by more than 200.

Some of those present from out of the state were Raymond H. and Mary Magee Sell, Oak Park, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Jacobson and children, Ivan and David, Sioux Falls, S. D.; Grace A. Richardson, Daytona Beach, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Byron Leasure, Knightown, Ind., and Mabel Ellis, Fayette, Mo. Others were present from Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton and Springfield in addition to those from Clinton County.

Many remained until sunset, while others reassembled at various homes. One of these gatherings was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard J. McKay, Rombach avenue, with about 30 present. A bountiful supply of leftovers from the picnic was augmented by several who were not present for the noonday meal because of the weather, and by Mr. and Mrs. McKay for the supper they had planned ahead of the picnic.
