| Extracurricular activities looks good on your application and keeps you sane! You don't have to be on the varsity team (though that would look good). Hobbies or interests could include fly-fishing, solving algebraic equations (!!), traveling in foreign countries, singing, classical piano, horse back riding, building sandcastles (!!), etc. Make the time for extracurricular activities but don't let it affect your grades!! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Volunteer at a Hospital Get exposure to the health care team working together and gain one on one experience with patients. You can volunteer and you local hospital or through the United Way. Quality time is more important than quantity. |

| First Aid Get hands-on experience in a medical situation and learn to act calmly in stressful situaltions. Check the Yellow Pages in your area or your college premed group for a good course. |

| Research Develop self-directed learning skills which is key to most modern medical schools. Apply for a campus research bursary, grant, scholarship and/or approach a prof directly. If all else fails, volunteer! |

| Media Keep up to date with world news in general and health care developments in particular. Local papers, USA Today, webMD, the News Hour on PBS, the free emails at the American Medical Students Association are all good sources of info. |
