Manitoba Lightning Tournament Rules (page 2):
CAA Rules will govern the following:

19.) Tie In Standings
To determine final team standings in the event of a tie, the following criteria shall be used:
   1.) The winner of the game(s) between the two tied teams shall be deemed the winner. The tie breaker is eliminated if there are multiple teams tied.
   2.) If still tied, the team with the least goals against shall be deemed the winner
   3.) If still tied, the team with the most goals shall be deemed the winner
   4.) If still tied, the team which scored the first goal in the game between each other shall be deemed the winner.

20.) Icing
Regular icing rules apply, the no touch rule is in effect. Two line off sides will not be called. There will be no centre line.

21.) Body Checking
Full contact is allowed at the following age groups; 1991, 1992, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1987, 1986, 1985 (Female Division excluded).

22.) Slap Shots
Will be allowed in all levels.

23.) Stick Measurements
Absolutely no stick measuring at any time.

24.) Timeouts
Each team will be allowed a 30 second time out per game.

25.) Injury
Should an injury occur during straight time, i.e. when the Mercy Rule is in effect, the clock will stop only at the discretion of the referee. In the opinion of the referee, if the injury to the player is mild in nature, the clock will continue to run. If the injury is more serious and medical aid is required, the referee will have the clock stopped until the injury to the player has been dealt with. If in the opinion of the referee, should a team deliberately abuse a rule, the clock will continue to run, regardless of the situation.

26.) Coincidental Penalties
If coincidental penalties are called NEITHER team will play shorthanded.

27.) Penalties
A player will be removed from the remaining time of that game after he has been assessed his 4th minor penalty.

28.) Fighting
If a fight occurs, all skaters on the ice must proceed immediately to their respective bench or to a neutral area as determined by an on ice official. Goaltenders must not leave their crease unless told to do so by an ice official. Players and team officials on the bench must not go on to the ice during an altercation, unless requested to do so by the officials in charge. Violation of this rule may result in a 2 game suspension for all involved.

29.) Checking from Behind
A player may receive either 2 or a 5 minute penalty at the discretion of the referee. If a 2 minute penalty is assessed the player will NOT receive a game misconduct but shall be assessed a 10 minute misconduct, and will remain in the game. If a 5 minute penalty is assessed the player will sit out the balance of that game. If a checking from behind occurs in the last have of the third period and the player is assessed a 5 minute penalty, the player will have to sit out the balance of that game as well as the balance of the next game. If an injury results from any checking from behind, the player will receive a 5 minute match penalty and a game misconduct. Upon completion of the game the tournament committee will decide if further action is required. CAHA rules will apply.

30.) Match Penalty / Gross Misconduct
Any player assessed a match penalty (a deliberate attempt to injure, by spearing, butt ending, slashing, cross checking, etc. i.e. a gross misconduct) will be subject to the tournament committee ruling immediately following a game.

31.) Awards
All participants in each category will receive an award for participating in the tournament.

32.) Protests
Protests will only be allowed when the eligibility of a player is in question under the following circumstances. If the athlete plays in an age division where he/she is too old. Protests must be filed in writing and be accompanied by a $200.00 cash deposit, which is only refundable if the protest is successful. All protests will be dealt with by the committee, within 3 hours of filing the appeal. Teams found in violation of these rules will result in the athlete being disqualified for the rest of the tournament. The team in violation will have all their games that resulted in a win or a tie reduce to a loss of 1 - 0 and all their points in the standings will be reduced to 0. Teams affected who lost points or tied against the team  in violation will receive an official score of 1 - 0 and receive 2 points. Under no circumstances will protests be allowed after the round robin portion of the tournament is over. All other protests will not be allowed. The tournament committee reserves the right to adjust the playing time of any and all games. All teams affected will be advised of the time adjustment. The tournament committee has the right to suspend play in any game.

36.) Protocol
No family member/parents and players are allowed to approach tournament officials with questions or comments. All enquiries go through team manager. Any parents/family members and fans that become disrespective during a game, will be removed from the arena. If the officials decide to stop the game in this case and the identified person refuses to leave the arena, the game will be defaulted. The team, the individual in question belongs to or represents will be credited with a 1 - 0 loss.

37.) Rosters
Once your team roster has been submitted to the tournament, you will be able to change this up and until your first game. When you have filled out the initial game sheet of the tournament, this will be deemed as your final roster. No changes can be made after your first game.

38.) General Tournament Rules
 - All teams must carry a minimum of $2 million liability.
 - All teams are guaranteed a minimum of 5 games.

39. Parents and Fans (please read)
The Manitoba Lightning AAA Hockey Challenge and the CSHA promote good sportsmanship by male and female athletes, coaches, and spectators. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and the officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial or sexist comments, or other intimidating actions directed at officials, athletes, coaches, or team representives shall not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site and if needed, additional disciplinary action.
