Manitoba Lightning Mission
Statement:
The
Manitoba Lightning Hockey Teams consist of children who share the
same desire to play hockey at a competitive level,
in an environment that is conductive
to skills development, sportsmanship, teamwork and above all, fun.
These
are kids who have worked hard at enhancing their skills for the love
of the game, and are deserving of the opportunity to showcase their
skills playing with, and against, the very best hockey players in
their age group. It is also an opportunity for the kids to play on a
team that is made up of similarly skilled players from winter teams
in and around the Winnipeg area.
The
Manitoba Lightning currently has teams competing in elite summer
hockey in age categories from 8 to 14 years for both male and female
athletes.
Unlike other summer hockey teams that have struggled for a
year and folded, the Manitoba Lightning program has been in
existence for 5 + years and is committed to providing in the years
to come, a forum for the kids to exhibit their skills, and the
satisfaction of playing with other talented AAA youngsters that have
a mutual affection for the game of hockey.
The
coaches and parents all volunteer time and effort to making the
program fun and successful for all involved.
Not unlike the winter hockey teams you are currently involved
with, The Manitoba Lightning is a non-profit organization which
relies on fund raising and corporate donations to offset the cost to
the parents for practice times, exhibition games and tournament
fees. NO
funds are paid to any of the coaches or team manager.
Typically,
3 tournaments (2 in Winnipeg & 1 out of town) and a series of
exhibition games are played during a
“Second Season” that begins in May and ends no later than
the 2nd week of July, allowing the children and respective families
to enjoy the summer. The annual “Manitoba Lightning Tournament”
has attracted teams from across North America and Europe, providing
exciting, competitive hockey, sportsmanship, and friendships that
last a lifetime.
