About Key Club |
Key Club is a service leadership organization for high school students that draws its members from the student body and operates under the regulation of the schools. Key Club is jointly sponsored by a local Kiwanis club as well as a school. The objective of Key Club is developing initiative, leadership abilities, and good citizenship practices. It is a student lead organization on the club level, district level, and international level and is the largest service organization of its kind. |

History of Key Club |
Key Club was started in May of 1925, in Sacramento, California. Kiwanis Club wanted to create a program to combat the growing problem of high school fraternities. The idea of a youth service organization for the home, school, and community slowly spread throughout the United States. By 1939, Florida had enough Key Clubs functioning that they were able to hold a state convention and form their own district. The example set by Florida was followed by many other districts and a national organization was finally started in 1943. Three years later, in 1946, the first club in Canada was formed. Key Club International is now a student lead organization that exists in North America as well as Caribbean nations. It has its own Constitution and Bylaws and is governed by 16 student leaders. |
