In Late 1996, I, Mike Schelly was commissioned to create a mural in the Mt. Washington area, in the city of Los Angeles. The purpose of the mural was to bring confidence and a welcoming attitude to the community. The mural was a success; however, due to weather conditions, it quickly decayed. In the year 2000, I revisited the mural and decided, to preserve the mural by starting over. The question was, how can this mural be restored to last permanently? I was told about a canvas that can be used for outdoors and was suggested to write a letter to the Mt. Washington Association; whom contributed some money to the mural in 1996. Sometime later, receiving word, the council districted of Los Angeles and the Mt. Washington Association came up with some funding to redo the mural. With help of a neighborhood matching fund (NMF) grant, restoring the mural was in progress. Now, since the Mt .Washington Stairway mural is completed, My goal is to create murals for my art career.
