| COVINGTON -- Do you have a longing for Lex? An aching for Ethan? A hankering for Frank? Well, we can't bring the 'Survivor: Africa' gang back, but we can do the next best thing: The third Family Survivor League is under way. In the game, family members wager 'points' on which cast member will get the big boot in the next episode. The person with the most points at the end of the season is the big winner. Invitations to join have already been sent out, but if yours has not arrived and you want to play, leave a message on the message board and we'll get you in the game. For the past two seasons, Bobby has impressed with his prognostication abilities. He won outright in our first contest, and he shared the title with wife Lesley last season. (Awww. Isn't that cute?) Final results from last season were as follows: 1. Lesley (tie) Bobby (tie) 2. Mike Walsh 3. Lanie 4. Mike Scott 5. Kelly 6. Judy and Mick 7. Shane and Besty 8. Kelly OSCAR TIME: If 'Survivor' isn't your thing -- or, heck, even if it is -- try our second annual Oscar pool. Similar to the 'Survivor' contest, players wager 'points' on who they think will win the various Academy Award categories. Last year, Judy won the title, correctly predicting the winners of 15 of 23 categories. (See 'And The Winner Is ...,' March 26, 2001.) Both contests are just for fun and, of course, free, although to play you'll need to set up a complimentary Yahoo! e-mail account at www.yahoo.com. As always, if you have trouble doing so, let us know and we'll help out. Good luck! |

| In the top photo, "I am somewhere around mile 25, and in the background you can see three poor souls still heading toward Audubon park," Bobby wrote, describing the above race photos, both of which were taken during the Mardi Gras Marathon. "It's about mile 14 for them." The other shot "is just before the finish line. At that exact moment, I am thinking 'I wonder if anyone will mind if I just lie down right here for a little while.'" | By Liz Scott Contributing writer NEW ORLEANS. -- After months of interviewing and agonizing, Bridget found out recently she has been selected for a year's internship with the prestigious Northwestern Univerisity Counseling Center in Chicago. It is APA-approved. She will graduate after she completes the internship in August, and then can hang out her shingle and buy her couch. "The site is well respected, and I get to stay in Chicago with my hubby," Bridget wrote in a recent e-mail. "I begin my internship in August and am there for an entire year. "And yes, this means I'm finally nearing graduation. On my last day of internship next year, I'll be able to call myself 'Doctor.' Thank God!" ... Also, Betsy is home safe from the Dominican Republic. She evidently has lots of adventures to regale us with, although I have not yet had a chance to talk with her at length. ... Also, Marigny sat up all by herself this week. The only witness was Katy. |

| NEW ORLEANS -- Bobby and a couple of thousand other fitness enthusiasts took the streets recently for the 2002 Mardi Gras marathon, a 26-mile trek that criss-crossed the Crescent City. The weather was relatively nice, by New Orleans' hot and humid standards at least, but the race was grueling nontheless. Still, Bobby finished the course 105th out of more than 1,000 men. "However, if you add in the women and the walkers -- they don't really count -- I finished somewhere around 114th out of about 2000," he said. Coming up soon on his calendar is the annual Crescent City Classic, the 10K (6.2 miles) race he runs every year. He'll have competiton this year, though: Plump brother Mike has decided to make a go of it and try to complete the course. It will be Mike's first major road race. He's been training for the March 30 race for the past few months and expects to finish with a considerably slower time than Bobby. 'If he drops his wallet or something, he won't have to worry,' Mike said. 'I'll be along about 20 minutes later -- somewhere around all those women and walkers who don't count -- and I'll pick it up for him.' |
