Maynell 1 Delta 2 - 11 September 2005 Kicked off our 1st game of the season against Delta, looking for our win and points to kick start our season. We started the game brightly and got controlled of the game after some hard tackling in the middle third. Our dominance came good when after a good move we got our noses in front, which we held for 10 minutes, then we allowed them back into the game, after failing to clear our lines. We didnt learn from that, then being caught out with a quickly taken free kick, which gave them their 2nd goal in 5 minutes, we had a chance to bring the scores level just before the break, but failed to hit the target. The 2nd half, we played better, but didnt create alot of goal scoring chances and when we did, their keeper saved them or we failed to hit the target. Its was a very good team performance didnt deserve to lose, but make beat teams when we are in control!!
Admiral Mann 1 Maynell 2 - 18 September 2005 After our defeat the previous week, we were more determined as a team to put that result behind us and get our 1st points on board. We knew this game would be tough and physical, which it was. We started well and competed with our opponents for every ball. We kept them at bay without them having a shot. We took the lead after a good move, which we deserved. Our lead lasted for about 10 mins, which was a gift our keeper missed the flight of the ball and they scored from that. the 2nd half, we played better, still the scoreline remained at 1-1, until haflway through, we got our 2nd,again after some good inter play. We dropped our game abit and allowed them to pressurise us, which we held out firmly. Good to get the 1st points on board.
Jay Cubed 3 Maynell 2 - 25 September 2005 Went into this game without 2 key players from last week, so 2 changes were made. Took control of this game and kept the opposition out with solid defending and keeping at bay with long range shots. Our reward was deserved with a long range thunderbolt shot which put us into the lead, after holding the lead for a short period of time. They got a unfortunate equaliser with an unstoppable own goal. The scores were level at the break.. The 2nd half we upped our game , but didnt create any clear cut chances and didnt use the flanks, just long balls.. We gave away a silly free kick on the edge of the box which they scored from after the wall broke. They got a 3rd after a mix up in defence. We got 1 back but we put alot of pressure on them but couldnt find that equaliser. We dominated this game, but were our worst enemies.
2nd October 2005 - Jack Walpole Cup - Lancresse 1 Maynell 4 After going into this game after a bad defeat the previous week. We were more determined to put that result out of our sytems with a victory. We made more out of this game, we should of have been 4-0 at half time. But the scores were level at the break. Started well and doinated the game and took the game to them, there were enough battles going on the pitch, but we got our 1st goal from a corner. We lost our concentration adn let them in for a undeserved equaliser. The 2nd half we came out more stronger and needed to get in front before we gave any sloppy goals away. The game was becoming a open game but not taking our chances, made changes which made an quick effect, which saw us take a 2 goal lead, the 2nd goal was a long thunder strike and the 4rd goal was scored by some quick thinking to gain a comfortable lead. Our 4th goal came from earning a penalty late on in the game, which wrapped up the victory for us, well deserved.
