A research oriented study (1994) on one of the older cities of India and the river by its side. Lucknow,finds its history dated before the mutiny of 1857 and even finds some reference in The Ramayana also.The study was focused on finding the links between the city and the river through the ages to establish a relationship.

The relationship may not be visual but it can be felt within by the activities that are generated on the banks of the river, the dialogues set by the citizens with their lanuse patterns on the edge of the river, the activities that the citizens involve into around the river. This study throws light upon the role a river plays in changing the character of the city with the changes of its own.

Methodology of stufy:
- Study of the river and city in retrospection.
- Situational Analysis of the river and its behavious as it is now.
- Documentation of the built forms on the river banks.
- Assesment of the priorities, participation and perception of people.
