Progreso

On the coast, 36 km north of Mérida is Progreso a fine spot for water sports and enjoying the beach. Spectacular sunsets await you on the beachfront esplanade, whinch is also lined with fine renowned for their fresh seafood. The imposing pier leading out to the Port of Progreso has converted this historic port into a favorite destination for cruise ships and cargo ships alike.

A short distance to the east of Progreso are other fine beaches worth visiting, including Chicxulub, Uaymitún (which also has a lookout for flamingo watching), San Benito and San Bruno.
