Loltun Caves

From Labná, Loltún, meaning "flower of stone" in Maya, is 12 km further on. this surprising large cave contains everything from the remains of Pleistocene fauna to ancient Mayan pieces. the Maya ancient used the cave for sacred cereminies, leaving sign of their existence in carved rocks, wall paintings and haltunes, which are depressions carved in the rock to collect water. The cave was also used by the Maya during the Castle war to hide from enemy soldiers. tourist services and guided visits are available.
