| Liz was bent over the sink washing dishes furiously. Max sat down at the counter and repeated "Liz..." but he couldn't finish because Liz whipped around flinging soap and water everywhere. "Don't Liz me Max. I know what you're gonna say and it's not right." Liz said completely pissed off. Because Max had the FBI and alien enemies after him he would never let any of the kids go for a day without him. That meant no sleepovers, no playdates, nothing like that. The kids would always have friends over the Evan's home and school was a big struggle for Max, he hated having them out of sight for so long. Even though they haven't had any trouble since they got out of high school and moved to California. Max still looked over his shoulder every second expecting to see someone there to kill or torture him because of who he was. Liz understood that they had to be cautious but she and Max had made a promise to do everything possible to let their kids have normal lives. If Max wouldn't even let them hang out with friends how can a normal life be possible? When Claudia turned twelve and wanted to start hanging out with her friends without a chaperone, it caused a lot of arguments between the three of them but in the end Max relented and let her go out as long as she always had the cell phone he bought her and that she would spend time with the three adult aliens on improving her defensive powers like the shield that she inherited from her father except hers was purple and Max's was green. She inherited Isabel's power for dream-walking, she also had the regular powers that the rest of them had, like molecular-changing and telekinesis. She was also empathic. It wasn't incredibly powerful but if she touched a person or sometimes something that they touched when their emotions were heightned she could feel what they were feeling. She had a weak power of freezing time. That was a power that stunned the family. One day Liz was walking through the door and caught Claudia watching TV when she was supposed to be doing her HW and Claudia wanted so bad to freeze time and was shocked when Liz froze for 2 minutes. Max had walked in and panicked when he saw Liz standing like a statue when it wore off he didn't let go of her for the rest of the day. It didn't work on aliens unfortunately but it did work on humans so Max was happy that she would have some defense if she ever got in trouble with the.... no he wouldn't even let himself think about it. That just led to a deep and dark place that would lead to worrying needlessly and locking Claudia in her room for the rest of her life so.... no thinking about it. Freezing time seemed to be Claudia's power that was original to her. No one else had been showing any signs of developing a power like that. So 2 days out of every week she spent a few hours with her father, aunt and uncle, working on the shield and the freezing time to strengthen them. Just recently they began working with Zan too. Both Max and Liz felt that he was old enough to handle working on his powers and being able to control it. Zan was just discovering his powers and was able to have some brief control over them. Zan also had the power of the sheild but his was blue. He inherited Michael's ability of the 'power blast', they worked hard on controlling that because it was incredibly dangerous. He had the basic powers, it seems every alien has them (telekenesis and the changing of mol. structure). He also inherited the power to heal from his father, nothing strong, just minor scars and scrapes. One power that was unique to him was the ability to make himself invisible. He could only so it for a few seconds at first but then he worked on it and it got stronger. At the present time he's able to hold the invisibility for 1 minute without moving. They discovered this power when Max was looking for him when they were playing hide and seek. Max saw him for a split second then he disapeared then 3 seconds later he flickered back. Needless to say he was shocked. "Liz, I know that you want her to have a normal life. I want her to have one too but it's too dangerous." Max pleaded. "I know Max. I realize that....but...." she slumped against the edge of the counter and put one hand over her face and started to cry. Max jumped up and took her into his arms. "Liz, I'm so sorry that it has to be this way. But I can't let anything happen to them. Never will I let anything happen to them.... or you." |
