| For those of you that do not know, MFL stands for Midnight Frisbee League. THE STORY It all started with a group of my friends and I: Ham, Hodge, Ruben, Nate Smith, Dino and Kuji. We were driving around one night. It was midnight. We decided to go to Stop & Shop in North Reading because it is open all night and we were bored. While in the parking lot, we started throwing a frisbee around. We did this again the next night and the next night and so on, until finally the Police showed up and told us we had to leave the parking lot. However, just down the road, there was Wal-Mart. Picture this: a parking lot the size of a football field with stadium lighting and perfectly flat. This became MFL's new home almost instantaneously. Eventually, the gentil tossing back and fourth of the frisbee evolved into a 4 on 4 frisbee game. We were gaining popularity week after week. Eventually the number of us doubled to sixteen people on the playing field. We even had fans. Towards the end of the summer, we staged a tourney in which four teams of four would compete. Only one team would take home the coke bottle/wood trophy. At the end of the summer, as people left for college/school, MFL sort of dwindled around. It was played on occational weekends when enough players were home. Until finally, after many previous visits, the cops booted us. In a frantic search for new playing fields for the Thanksgiving night game, we decided on a parking lot in the industrial park. Again, we got booted. We then migrated to the parking lot of homegoods (a sorry excuse for a playing field) and there we reside. There is much future MFL to be played and I urge all of you to become one with us frisbee players. |
