Walking through the night, a dark presence permeates your soul like death's perfume. You look around cautiously, trying to find the source of the disturbance. You see ... nothing.
You may have just trespassed on a Night Walker. They are spiritually enhanced warriors that dwell in our shadows. You will never see one in the daylight - sunlight destroys them instantly. But meet the wrong one in the evening, and you may not live to see the sunrise. Your only hope would be to find one of the Night Walkers who has taken the charge to protect you and your fellow humans - or "normals" as you are known to them.
Night Walkers look human, but they are far from it. They are a symbiotic unit formed when a spiritual being that resembles a jellyfish (known as a "hiss" from the noise they make) joins with a normal human. The result is a man or woman who cannot be harmed by mortal weapons and lives for centuries ... or more. They can pass through walls - using caution to not "get stuck." And most Night Walkers possess supernatural talents that give them extrordinary powers.
At their inception, a group of Night Walkers rebelled against their creator - jealous of the time he spent with the normal humans. This group tried to kill the creator and those he held dear. But the other faction held fast - willing to sacrifice their lives for the creator. Not willing to see his children kill each other, the creator flooded the earth and dispersed the both armies until they could understand their place and purpose better.
Through the millenia, the creator's children became known as ShadowLight and their opposition as the Nachtise. Each faction carries on the legacy left to them, battling each other with glowing supernatural edged weapons such as swords, daggers, and axes. These weapons, extensions of themselves, enable the factions to fight each other in order to achieve their goals. These weapons are the only ones that can injure Night Walkers - with the exception of becoming stuck in the ground ... and of course, the sunlight.
No one knows how many Night Walkers exist. At times, each faction has suspected that the opposite has been completely destroyed. Yet, there aways seems to exist a remnant to survive through the centuries. |
