The next trap is one that you can forget about for weeks, and still be catching crayfish. It's very simple to make, and it looks like this:
Ultimate Lazyman's Crayfish Trap
"The Mineral Water Bottle of Doom"
--Help! I can't get out of here!
--I think I'll walk into this hole and get some of that fish!
As you can see, the trap consists of a bottle sunken into the mud with bait at the botton. You will need only an empty water bottle (with the top cut off) to make the trap. Just dig a small hole in the mud and sink the bottle in so that the opening is flush with the surrounding ground. Drop the bait in and cover it with a rock is there is a current.

The idea is that the crayfish smell the bait (bacon is the best bait, but I would not waste good bacon on a crayfish) and crawl towards it. They will not realize they are in a trap until they stop eating and try to climb out. It's beyond me why the crayfish don't just swim out of the bottle, but I guess that's a trick reserved for
higher forms of life.
