Matchbox Twenty frontrunner Rob Thomas, born on a military base in Germany, spent much of his time shuffling between his grandmother's home in South Carolina and his mother's home in Florida. A high school dropout, Thomas drifted throughout the Southeast, hitchhiking everywhere he went. Thomas's only inspiration was music. Most inspirational to Thomas was Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, and R.E.M.

After drifting through the Southeast, Thomas settled down in Orlando where he meet up with other musicians, Paul Doucette, Adam Gaynor, Brian Yale, and Kyle Cook. All of who would form Matchbox Twenty.

In 1996 the band signed on with Lava records and released their debut album, "Yourself or Someone Like You". This album would take the band to the top with hits such as "3 am", "Push", "Real World", and "Back 2 Good".

Now living in the limelight, the band recently released their second record, "Mad Season" in 2000. Which includes the hits, "Last Beautiful Girl", "If Your Gone", and "Bent".

Thomas has come a long way since his hitchhiking days as a high school dropout. Now a superstar in the music industry, Thomas is here to stay.
