How I convert DVD to VideoNow

  • I Use DVDx 2.2 to convert the DVD to a Divx AVI using this guide: http://www.polarhome.com:793/~afonic/divx5.htm. I realize this probably isn’t the best way, but converting to Divx results in a MUCH smaller file size to work with. Drawback to this method-->takes a LONG time to convert!!(almost 7 hours for one movie movie I did!!) You could use any method for getting your DVD onto your HD that you want…here are some suggestions:

  • Search http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools for DVD-->AVI tools.

  • Split the resulting AVI into pieces using VirtualDub. I use version 1.5.3 available here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=9649. It seems to make the VideoNow player happy. I split the file into approximately 20 minute pieces. Use FRAMES, not TIME! I have noticed that for whatever reason, Vdub doubles the size of my AVIs. Using frames, this is not a problem for me. If you cut your AVI every 36000 frames (approx 30fps*60s*20m) you will get roughly 20 minutes of footage per piece. (I use 24 minute TDK mini cdrs, and don’t want to take any chances.)

  • Take each resulting AVI “piece” and convert to VideoThen specs, according to the .vcf file included with GregSmith’s VideoThen with VirtualDub 1.5.3.

  • Convert to WAV with VideoThen
  • Then, edit and burn using this Guide Almost all of this is taken from transient's Guide. I only take credit for the pics and some "trial and error"
