MASSBad 'B' Doubles League     Organizational Notes ¡V November 5, 2006

League Structure

The MASSBad 'B' Doubles League will consist of groups of coeducational teams with approximately 4 teams in each group. There will be as many groups as necessary to accommodate as many teams as wish to participate. If there is more than one group, a League Championship play-off will be planned at the end of the season.

In the initial year of play, the groups are expected to be homogeneous with the possibility that in future years groups might evolve into different levels, based on the prior year's results. Each team will play each of the other teams in their group twice in the season, once on each team's home courts. Each team that enters must make provision for providing court time sufficient to accommodate their team's home play every other week. It is expected that teams will likely be 'club-based' in order to meet this requirement, however strict club affiliation will not be mandated by the League.

The season is expected to run from mid-January to mid-March with a two week period at the end to allow teams to make up 'ties' that may have been postponed due to weather, etc.

Competition Structure

Team meets will consist of the following set of matches:

4 Mens Doubles
1 Womens Doubles
4 Mixed Doubles

Matches will consist of the best of 3 games using the 21 point rally scoring system. The specific order of matches will be set prior to the first Team Meet and teams will be required to adhere strictly to that order and to complete all matches for their results to be counted. The team winning more matches will win the Meet.

The schedule of Team Meets by week will be set prior to the beginning of the season. Teams will have to contact each other to establish the actual date and time of their Meet as each team's home courts may have different schedules. In the event that Teams cannot agree on a time and place for their Meet in the scheduled week, they may request permission of the League to reschedule their Meet no later than the following week and must occur prior to that week's other scheduled Meets for those teams. Meets cancelled due to weather or other unanticipated emergency should be rescheduled as soon as possible, although there will be a two week period at the end of the season to allow for rescheduled Meets which could not be held earlier.

The Home Team will provide shuttles (feathered shuttles required) and refreshments.
Team Structure

Minimum team size is 4 Men and 2 Women. There is a limit of maximum 18 team members allowed on a team. No player will be allowed to play more than 3 matches in a Meet. Teams will be asked to submit their Team Roster at the beginning of the season. Teams may add more players during the season only as necessary and must receive League permission to do so. If a substitute or additional player is approved to play for a team in a given Meet, that player will become a regular member of that team. Players may only play for one team during the season.

Registration

Teams must register with the League by December 10, submitting a roster of players and a fee of $30 per team.

Prizes

The first place team at the end of the season, possibly determined by playoffs of different groups if the League consists of more than one group, will be awarded a perpetual trophy engraved with their team name. The team will hold the trophy until the end of the next season at which point it will surrender it to the next season's winner.
