BIO
Yance Covington-Drums
proactive integrated synergistic e-drum application
solutions. Yance enjoys candle lit sunsets, long dinners on the beach,
kittens and scotch. He’s played everything from hardcore to bluegrass
with some nihilistic samba somewhere in between. Past bands include
River of Black, Shades
Below, Mean Little Girl, and Sneaky
Pete.
Warren G. Fryar-Vocals & Rhythm Guitar
I seriously was the first Warren G.! I've played guitar
since high school. Influences include Prince, Neil Young, Antonio
Carlos Jobim, David Byrne, Miles Davis, and Roger Miller. (Oh Yeah,
and anything played on FM radio from about 1975 on). I was trumpet
player in a boarding school band called NOW
WE ARE SIX. In Chapel Hill I sat in with NIKKI
MEETS THE HIBACHI and played covers with WISH
LIST. I spent a year in Southern Africa absorbing African pop,
singing acapella with the chorus of the teacher training school in
the district of Nhamatanda, and writing songs in an abandoned warehouse
with no ceiling. A friend of mine from the African volunteer experience
formed a folk punk and country and western bossa nova band called
LAMEGO, named after our African hometown.
I sang, strummed, played trumpet and toured with him between 1997
and 99. Now, I sing songs and play rhythm guitar with Marzipan Effigy.
John Gillespie-Bass
Vetran of numerous Chapel Hill bands (Nikki Meets
the Hibachi, Two Fish
Blue, Kickball,
Collapsis, and more), John Gillespie
has always had two
faces: earnest, acoustic singer-songwriter and rock
bassist. Marzipan
Effigy is the only group to marry those two
competing personalities, and for
this he is grateful. John is, however, a musical
cad, and he currently plays
with the Suzanne Elliott band and the
Lucy Stoners
when not performing with
Marzipan Effigy.
