Dear Mary,

Thank-you very much for the wonderful support ORMTA members like yourself have given the 1997 Music Writing Competition. This year there were 63 entries from students of 42 teachers in 24 branches across the province -- the largest participation to date.

The adjudicator this year was Boyd McDonald. He selected five first-place winners and those compositions have been forwarded to the CFMTA for adjudication at the national level.

The composition "Snow Dance" by your student Mark Johnston has placed Second in the A-1 class. Congratulations to you both! The complete results of the ORMTA competition will be published in NOTES, along with the adjudicator's general comments an the entries submitted this year.

A Certificate of Participation for each student you entered is enclosed. Adjudications and prizes, where applicable, have been sent directly to the students. 1 hope you will be able to discuss the results with your students.
