Ottawa piano teachers’students win two Siliver MedalsThe Royal Conservatory of Music has awarded Sliver Medals for the highest marks In Ontario for the l997 piano examination to Jenny Zhao (grade seven piano) and Ye Yuan (grade three piano). The conservatory awards ten Silver Medals each year, one to each of the students who receives the highest mark in Ontario from grades one to ten. The Sliver Medal presentation ceremony was held November 28 at the The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Jenny Zhao is a grade nine student at Canterbury High School. She started piano lessons when she was nine years old, and is currently a grade 9 piano student. She has won numerous awards given by the Kiwanis Music Festival, and this year she was the Laurentian Junior Music Club Plaque and Scholarship winner in piano at the senior level. Ye Yuan is a grade four student at D. Roy Kennedy Public School. He has also won several awards given by the Kiwanis Music Festival, and was the Plaque and Scholarship winner of the Laurentian Junior Music Church Club at the intermediate level. Mary Orr is an Ontario registered piano teacher. She studied music at Texas Women’s University and continued graduate studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Church Music. She has taught piano in Ottawa for twenty-two years. Her students have received excellent results each year in both piano and theory examinations, and have won many awards given by the Kiwanis Music Festival. She has accompanied various choirs and soloists on both the piano and the organ in many concerts. At present, she is the organist at the Ottawa Chinese United Church. |
