Ye Yuan and Jenny Zhao, silver medallists, with Glebe teacher Mary Orr (centre). Two of Mary Orr's piano students have received Silver Medals from the Royal Conservatory of Music for having the highest marks in Ontario for the 1997 piano examinations. Jenny Zhao, (Grade seven piano), and Ye Yuan, (Grade three piano) received their medals November 28, 1997 at the Royal Conservatory of Music, in Toronto. Other students of the Glebe piano teacher have won scholarships from the Laurentian Junior Music Club and many awards from the Kiwanis Music Festival. Mary Orr's son, Matheus, will be receiving his ARCT piano diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in January. Mary Orr is an Ontario Registered piano teacher. She studied music at Texas Woman's University, and continued her graduate study at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Church Music. She has taught piano in Ottawa for 22 years and her students have received excellent results each year in both piano and theory examinations. She has accompanied various choirs and soloists, on both the piano and the organ in many concerts. At present, she is the organist and the pianist at the Ottawa Chinese United Church. |
