St. Pat's student wins provincial award

Julie Marinelli, a graduate of St. Patrick High School, was given top honours at a Catholic Education Foundation of Ontario awards banquet Oct. 25.

June was chosen for the award, one of 163 given across Ontario, for her good grades, preparing and assisting in the school liturgy, working on the yearbook committee and volunteering to help with students with learning difficulties.

The award was presented to her by Bishop Colli of the Diocese of Ottawa. She was accompanied to the ceremonies by her sister, parents and John Shaughnessy, principal of St. Patrick High School.

Young pianist wins highest marks in Ontario

Jenny Zhao, a Grade 9 student at Canterbury nigh School, played her way to a silver medal by receiving the highest marks in Ontario for 1997 Royal Conservatory of Music piano examinations.

She has won numerous awards in piano this year, including those at the Kiwanis Music Festival and the Laurentian Junior Music Club where she won a scholarship at the senior level.

Jenny is now a Grade 9 Royal Conservatory piano student.

She will receive her silver medal on Nov. 28 in Toronto.
