I have been listening to more music which I found only ordinary and reading the trouble with physics, (The Rise of String Theory, the Fall of a Science)  by Lee Smolin (very good). The effect of both these is rather depressing and makes me wonder whether I should write the trouble with chemistry and  the trouble with contemporary music.

However that would be silly as musical issues are settled by composing music not writing things without practical backup. I  might well write the trouble with contemporary music  but keep it as private notes and get on with actual playable notes. So I musit get on with that now!
